For the last project of the year, the teachers of the Help Desk class assigned an exploratory activity where the students were free to choose a topic explored throughout the year and make something out of it. It could be a video, a song, a game, or anything that would show and represent the amount of time given in class for the project. For my project, I chose to recreate one or more famous buildings (depending on the amount of time I had available) in a achitectural design app program so I could later make a video about my experience recreating this/these building(s) digitally. Below is the document that contains the prompth for the project and my planning for it: For now, I have my 3D model of the Pantheon, but like almost every project or work, there are some difficulties and problems along the way. Problems found during the creation of the 3D models: My first though of a program to use while making the project was Sweet Home 3D, but after some analysing, I realised that what I wanted was not the actual goal of the program and that there were other softwares that could better help me accomplish my goal. Then, I was introduced to the web verson of the SketchUp program. After realising that I did not have much time to complete my initial artifact before the due date, I figured that I had to change programs to finish it in time. I had some experience with the tinkercad program before, so I decided to give that one a try. To learn more about each program mentioned by now, click on the links: Tinkercad process of designing the Pantheon: Because of my previous experience with Tinkercad, the process of recreating the Pantheon was much easier. Below is various angles of the final product of my design compared to actual pictures of the pantheon Even though it doesn't contain all the details I would've liked to add, my plan is to add these details as times goes by. My goal was completed for the initial artifact, and I am very happy with the result! Tools used: The tools on Tinkercad are really simple to utilize, that being one of the reasons I decided to work with it. On the process of creating my 3D design, I only used four shapes (the square, the cylinder, the sphere and the 3D triangle) (Image 1 below). To put all these shapes together, I used the three tools below on Image 2. The one on the far left is for grouping shapes and it allows you to edit and move two or more structures at the same time. The icon in the middle is for separating the shapes you previously grouped. That is very helpful in case you commit a mistake and has to edit some shapes separately. Last is the aligning tool on the far right of Image 2. It's goal is to (as the name says) align the shapes so the user can have an easier time doing things like centering their chosen shapes. Plans for subsequent artifact: For my subsequent artifact, I was thinking of recreating another building and preparing for the video creation, the last part of my project. Even though I have a lot of time to complete the Final artifact, I think it is beneficial to me to start preparing for it now. For the video, I would like to put in informations about technology and architecture, as well as my process creating the 3D models and informations about each of them in real life. My plan is to use free stock videos and screen recordings of my screen and combine that with a background soundtrack and voiceovers.
